God, I am glad that I read these reviews...I thought I was going crazy! Saturday was my 9th U2 concert and am a die-hard fan but I have been shaking my since I left the United Center. Did I have a great time? Yes. Was it great seeing the boys again after a few years? Yes. Would I still rather have been there than anywhere else? Yes. Were they still better than any other band? Probably.
But I have to be honest, I left slightly disappointed. That U2-knock you on your butt performance where you sort of float for a few hours after was no where to be found. I have never left a U2 concert so "uneffected", if that makes sense. I actually caught myself shaking my head during a couple of songs, trying to put my finger on what the hell was missing. Their was something definitely missing with the band's energy and pardon my blasphemy, but Bono seemed rather ordinary. I can't believe those words just came off my keyboard. Were there moments that got me going?! You bet, but I have never left an arena or stadium after seeing them and felt like I did.
I am sure that this void I am feeling is partly due to such excessively high expectations. But the key is that they have never disappointed me before! They have always moved me like no other live band, not even close.
Well, I'll be back on Thursday for another go and will see them again in September. I just hope that the magic returns and am hopeful that it will. It just fu@#in' has to....
