My second ever U2 show, and it was surreal. Got there early to get into the heart, and wandered over to the United Center entrance around 3:30 (while others held our place.) Adam and Edge pulled up first, chatting and signing for about 10 minutes. Some guy had a red guitar, which the Edge signed "With a red guitar on fire." Got his Hancock on my ticket, but missed on Adam. My buddy got the both to sign his ticket. Larry drove straight by about 10 minutes later. Finally, Bono pulled up. Some girl in a cowboy hat was trying to pass him a note. She said she'd been pulled up on stage twice, I think mentioning Phoenix as one of them. Bono had a big, wicked gold pinky ring on his left hand. Some woman had a very unflattering B&W glossy of Bono in tighty-whities from the early 80's. He looked at it for a bit... I wasn't sure if he'd sign it or rip it up. Got him to sign my ticket as well. My buddy finally got him to sign his, but Bono signed the part of the ticket that gets ripped off. My buddy later paid $150 for a new ticket, just so he could keep this one. By the way, he'd already taken pictures with Adam and Larry outside their hotel before Saturday's show. The whole thing was very mellow. No screaming, no shoving... everybody cool. So, we make it into the heart. I think the rest of the reviews do the show justice. I just wanted to comment on actually being in front the crowd, seeing them as the band does. This is as close as you'll ever get to experiencing what it's like to be on stage at a show of this size. There's something truly thrilling about standing four feet away from Bono and the Edge, and you're just as much in the spotlight as they are, looking out at around 20,000 people. Do whatever you must, but get inside that heart!
