As I read the reviews that are posted about the show last night, it is amazing that my experience was the same as so many others. I had a spiritually moving experince.
My wife and I saw the boys earlier in May, and last night's show made the other pale in comparison. I think it is because we are all different since the first leg. I appreciated how they did not try to market the events of 9-11-01, but truly grieved with the rest of us of all faiths who have lived through the tragedy.
Maybe it was better because of the raw emotion of the band. Maybe it was Bono's personal introspection reflecting on his father before playing "Kite". Maybe it is as Americans for the first time we sang "Sunday Bloody Sunday" as our song, and not one about Ireland. Maybe it was Bono singing, "Wipe your tears away," to each of us. Whatever it was it was a display of beautiful unity.
Everyone stood until the end singing every word of every song. It seemed that no one wanted it to end. As I have tried to describe it to my co-workers the only thing that I can say is "It was an experience that cannot be described in words, it was an intangible emotional night."
I trust you loyal U2 fans who read this will believe as I do that God truly loves all. Last night I felt we were close to Him. May we all continue to reach out for him, and perhaps find him. If you are wondering where to begin looking . . . go to a U2 concert.
