Bono said that Chicago had become a hometown gig for U2. The happiness and comfort they seem to find here enabled them to play with ease and confidence. As you can tell from other reviews, this was an amazing show -- the best I've seen in the tour and maybe the best ever. Although U2 blew the roof off the United Center back in May, I think they sent it into orbit last night. The energy was absolutely incredible -- one of those rare occasions when the band and audience are in complete sync emotionally and musically. For the first time, I really felt and understood SBS. Singing along with a tinge of anger was a memorable experience. If that wasn't enough to grab you by the throat, the screens rolling during One with the names of the airline crew and passengers who died on 9/11 just finished you off. I took a friend who was unfamiliar with U2 and had never been to a rock concert before in her life. I was anxious to see what reaction to the show was. Well, this concert brought tears to her eyes and made a committed U2 fan out of her. Another convert!
