Wow, this was the first time I've seen U2, and they just blew me away. There were some really touching moments there on Monday night. The most touching, I have to say, was when Bono reached in the crowd and was handed an American flag. The crowd went NUTS. The energy and cheering for the flag gave me shivers down my spine. Here's a band that's all about peace, and this is the perfect response at the perfect time from the crowd. They really know how to get a message across.
They took the stage at 8:50PM and Bono began by kneeling and making the sign of the cross. That guy is awesome, and I hope people don't think that he's goofy and he takes himself too seriously. He's a great man. Elevation got the crowd going, but the energy was shown during Beautiful Day. Every song seemed better than the next, and then fianly, one of the most powerful songs of the night, Pride. There was such unity in the United Center, and it was all because of the message of peace. I was completely not expecting two encores, but not only were they filled with great songs, but they were also one of the most touching expierences I've been a part of. What's Going On, New York, which had new words, One, Peace On Earth, and Walk On, all paid tribute to America in this time of tragedy. I hope U2 goes back on tour next year, because who knows, by then crazier things may be happening and we may need them more than right now.
