I am in total agreement with Barry...the previous post. I have been a U2 fan for over 20 years, as my first show was in 1985 (Unforgettable Fire tour in Pittsburgh). This show in Philly was one of the best, if not THE best, U2 show that I have been to since the Zoo TV tour (and mind you, the Pop tour was not bad either...see my post for Clemson Memorial Stadium...1st post). All I can say is that I waited several days - on purpose - to post my review, so that I could have time to let the post-U2 concert adrenaline sink in and reflect... I'll even admit, I had wanted to hear Bad (one of my personal favs) and OOTS from Atomic, but I'm not complaining. When I think back to the concert...for the first 1 1/2 hours (as they rolled through intense songs...song after song), I kept hitting my brother in the arm & yelling to him "this is AWESOME...they sound AWESOME!...oh my god!" The highlight was the Boy stff for me.
All I am saying is, come on...for those complaining about not hearing certain songs, these boys just got inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame last month and they are a current, vibrant, viable rock n roll band! They have 25 years of songs to choose from ...and somehow have to par it down to a short-list it for US! (It is only going to get more difficult for them to do in the future) And - for those complaining about the politics in the show by Bono (agree with you Barry), when I think back to U2 in the early 80s...political viewpoints are a huge cornerstone of what they are all about and why I fell in love with them. Personally, I was moved when they played SBS on Saturday. It was awesome...the best version I have heard live. I found myself shouting "No More!" "No More!" with images of Iraq recent car bombing news headlines in mind. Let's face it folks, these guys and their cause have stood the test of time...both musically, politically and most of all, in our hearts! I am proud to be a U2 fan...one who has stuck with them over 2 decades, no matter what. After May 14th, I hope that I am lucky enough to see them again in Philly this October...
For any of you going this Sunday...have a blast!
