Wow. I echo most of the reviews that are above this. I saw U2 in May on the first leg of this tour and it wasn't even close to what I saw tonight!
I scored two GA floor tickets but was sad to see "PLEASE PROCEED TO THE FLOOR". Since I had already seen them in May, I knew about Bono coming up on the ellipse. We positioned ourselves just to the right of center if you were facing the stage and got lucky. Confetti starts falling and Bono is right in front of us! This spot was also used for the single drum later, so lots of Bono and Adam Clayton right in front of us.
No one has posted yet about Bono's voice during Elevation. The Edge started the opening riff and the audience did the woo-woo's. Bono asked for water and got a fan's beverage. I don't think it was water because he took a sip and handed it back. Finally just as a roadie was running out with a bottle of water, some fan handed him a bottle of water and he took a huge swig. Then he went into the show. I was thinking "oh no, his voice might be toast." Boy was I wrong!
His energy level tonight was amazing. He added bits of Sgt. Pepper and Blackbird to the end of a song. He riffed on the City of Brotherly Love instead of Blinding Lights early.
Shout outs to celebrities included Eagles linebacker Dhani Jones and Philadelphia Mayor John Street. The entire crowd booed when Bono said that and he just sort of laughed and said "am I missing something?" Yeah...we don't like Mayor Street!
I knew when he said with a grin "is Philly like this every Monday night?" we might be in for something special.
I had no idea they were going to bring Bruce Freaking Springsteen out during an encore! I texted everyone I knew to let them know what they were missing. Totally a special moment and one I will never forget.
To close, if you get floor GA tickets and don't get in the ellipse, I recommend just to the right of center. That's where Bono comes up in the beginning and where the single drum is placed.
Really wanted to hear Bad, and it bums me out that it was on the set list and switched. That happened at the May show I went to as well. Maybe I'll get to hear that one live some day. Can't complain right? No Bad, but we did have the Boss. Oh yeah, Bono even said something like "New York will be so jealous". He's right.
Philly has finally had a special U2 show and I can't believe I was lucky enough to see it.
