My 9th U2 show I have to admit was THE BEST! My reasons:
First, because I took my sister who had always wanted to see U2, and finally got to see them for the first time. She was in awe the entire night. I looked over at her during Bono's masterful operatic performance of Miss Sarajevo, and she was nearly in tears, not realizing until right then just what this man-god's true capabilities were. It was an incredible feeling just to see the process of someone being mesmerized by their first U2 show.
Second, the crowd, the crowd, the crowd! There was an energy in the audience last night that was unmatched to any other U2 show I've seen. I was at that '87 JFK show, and this sellout had about 1/4 the amount of people of that sellout, and the enthusiasm and energy that circulated the Wachovia Center last night was truly bone chilling. My sister even leaned over to me at one point during the audience singing the first verse of "Still Haven't Found..." and admitted that she had goosebumps.
Third, the performance was second to none. I Will Follow, Electric Co., Miss Sarajevo, Love and Peace, Walk On, and Fast Cars were the absolute highlights of the show for me. But nothing really came close to seeing Bruce appear on stage after I scanned the crowd for a few seconds to see who Bono would actually pick to play his guitar. The sound was deafening as Bruce came onstage, and my sister leaned over and said, "who's the old guy on stage with them?" (I think she was expecting Bono to pick out a young kid from the audience). When I looked at the video screen and saw that it was Bruce, I just couldn't believe that I was being treated for a second time to this awesome combination...and yes, my sister's jaw dropped when my response to her question was an enthusiastic "Bruce Springsteen!".
I thought U2's bewildering days were over when I saw them on the first leg of the tour on May 14th. That night, the band really disappointed with a ho-hum performance. They made up for it tenfold last night, and I am already thinking of how I can actually see the band just once more before the tour ends. I may be seeing my first ever show at MSG next month ; )
