Exactly 24 hours after Larry walked off the stage and I still can’t believe I was there. I can’t stop thinking about it. I listened to WMMR 93.3 off and on most of the morning just to fill the void. Yes fellow fans, for me, this was the show to remember!!! My ninth. And the best of all!!! I thought that MSG on the 8th was a fabulous show but it did not even compare.
Tickets were bought Sunday at 2pm from the ticketmaster site. 2 GA’s. My place - about 6 people from the edge of the ellipse slightly off center to the right. I just read a posting on @U2 that according to the fan reviews that this might have been the show of the year. I think it was!!!!
The boys came out at 8:50. City as always was amazing and I knew from the start that this had a different intensity than the 2 previous shows I had seen in Philly this year and the one in NYC. I think Bono commented 3 times about Monday night in Philly and how intense it was. I can’t remember his exact words but we lit him up and he poured all he had into us. I love the way they extend Vertigo and keep the crowd into it. This year’s Elevation is such a great version and keeps the crowd right into it as well. Once I Will Follow kicked in the energy was at an all time level in the Center. Boy was such an incredible album then and 25 years later it is still fresh and amazing to hear live or otherwise. Young and new fans must discover that album. The Electric Co. was bigger and better than when they did it in the spring and The Edge was amazing at the end and it almost appeared that he and Bono did an abbreviated version of the UTEOTW duel.
I never expected I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. It was as good as ever and the crowd made the song very magical. Beautiful Day is always amazing and then came a very funny and hopeful introduction to Miracle Drug. Again, I can’t quote it but Bono said that The Edge was not from this world but from the future. In the story, all other 3 band members asked The Edge questions as he comes off his spaceship after it arrives Ireland. He is holding his guitar and playing the beginning riff of Miracle Drug. The final question was from Adam. He asks, what is the future like, and The Edge says, “It’s better” and then Bono introduces Miracle Drug. Just Amazing!
From there they did the usual set list. The story of Miss Sarajevo and the song itself complements the COEXIST theme so well. Once again it’s pure Bono magic. An acoustic Walk On was the first encore song. Never expected that either. Amazing! Fast Cars was fun and lead us right into the highlight of the night. People Get Ready with Bruce “The Boss” Springsteen. Bono said that he needed an extra guitar player and then there he was. They jammed and went on for at least 10 minutes. Towards the middle of the jam session the lyrics were just made up by Bono, mostly about Bruce being from Jersey and about Philadelphia. They were having so much fun. The crowd was laughing and jamming right along. Amazing!!! From there the set list took several changes. I wish they didn’t have to stop by 11pm but it just seems that they keep it to that. Rumors say that they had Original of the Species and Bad on the list but they did All Because Of You and then 40. Despite that, those two songs were yes, Amazing!!!!!!!
The entire show was incredible, magical, and amazing. I still can’t believe I was at one of the best shows they have put on. Thanks to the fans and to U2.
