I don't usually do this kind of thing, but I feel compelled to write because although nearly two weeks have passed, I still find myself thinking about this concert and U2. The music of Bono, Edge, Larry and Adam really can take us to a better place - "a land of hope and dreams" as Springsteen would say.
My husband and I celebrated our 15th anniversary by going to the concert - spending much of the day on the GA line and then getting lucky with pink Vertigo wristbands and a great spot just 3 people from the stage in between Bono and the Edge. A great moment for me was when Bono came out on the catwalk and many turned back to see him, I looked forward, smiled and Adam, who was right in front of me, smiled back. We all laughed when Bono baptized us with his water bottle. While waiting for the concert to begin, I chatted with a woman standing next to me about when we both saw U2 for the first time during the Unforgettable Fire tour, and a sweet English girl in front of us, celebrating her 21st birthday in the best way I can imagine, remarked that she hadn't been born yet. The timelessness of U2's music speaks volumes.
I can still remember where I was when I first heard Sunday Bloody Sunday on WMMR in college; it remains one of my favorite U2 songs and it was great to hear it live once again. It may be about a different time and place, but its relevancy lives on. City of Blinding Lights with confetti raining down on us was a magnificent opener, and Bruce and Patti on stage - and the crowd's reaction - is concert history.
Thanks, U2, for your hard work and brilliant music. The world is a better place - all because of you.
