U2 is nominated for two awards at the upcoming MTV Europe Music Awards: Best Live and Best Rock. (I'm assuming MTV is just too cool to put "Act" or "Artist" or something on those category names, but you get the idea.)

Winners are determined by online fan voting, which can be done on mtvema.com. U2's competition in the first category (Live) includes Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Eminem, while their competition in the second category (Rock) includes Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Royal Blood and The Killers.

The event takes place November 12 at SSE Arena, Wembley in London.

Total speculation here: Since U2 will be finished with the Joshua Tree Tour 2017 by then, and since they have an album coming out December 1st that they'll want to promote, don't be surprised if U2 is announced soon as a performer at the MTV EMAs.
