Well, after waiting 22 years for this moment, it finally came and it did not disappoint!!! Having lived in areas all my life that for whatever reason resulted in it being near impossible to go see a U2 concert, I was bound and determined this time around to go. I tried 3 different methods to score tickets when they went on sale, but got them from "Peggy" when she was able to score 2 pairs. Thank you so much, Peggy. I owe you the moon, the stars, and the sun!!!
Anyway, the show was the closest thing to a religious experience that I could imagine. When those chords for COBL rang out, my heart was pounding, my eyes piercing the darkness for the first glimpse of the band. When the lights flashed, the sight was imprinted on my brain and will stay there to be replayed over and over until the day I die.
Our tickets were in the lower level straight across from the stage. We did not notice any sound problems. Most people were into the whole show, even the two girls sitting next to us who were about 20. Luckily, we did not have anyone next to us who was obnoxiously drunk. We had a couple of beers, but I wanted to remember the night.
The show was an "experience" in that it is only at a concert that you will ever see this type of unity exhibited between all walks of people. Bono's pleas for people to co-exist and to support our people in uniform even as they fight a war were met with whole-hearted approval. I know that while I for one ponder these issues and can't quite completely embrace one viewpoint, I could applaud Bono's statements because they offered hope. And hope is desperately needed to survive these days. The cynic in me often wins out, but last night the idealist was allowed to takeover in full force and join in with all the other idealists. After leaving the show, it seems that all things good are possible.
Thank you, U2, for giving us the inspiration, the drive, and the encouragement to work towards a better world. And last but not least, thank you for the body of music that makes life so much more beautiful. To paraphrase, "It Was a Beautiful Night."
