At 44, I have seen well over 100 rock concerts, beginning with the Rolling Stones at age 11. U2's performance was phenomenal! So good, I was able to enjoy it even though a group of Charlotte's next generation stood in front of us, blocking my view through most of the show (no one stood in front of them, I asked them nicely, they refused to sit -- arena staff could not make them sit down... selfish little assholes!).
I must add that while I was expecting Bono to address his activist causes, he did so with outstanding taste. A mention of our former Senator Jesse Helms was made, underscoring the need to have the Right join with the Left. I was floored!
The coolest moment was when Bono said, "Lets turn this place into a Christmas Tree... Everyone take out your cell phones". It was a 21 Century version of how folks used to raise up lighters to show their appreciation for the bands. Did Bono know that Charlotte has one of the highest per capita numbers of cell phones in the country? Very cool!
I am on the list to end poverty -- are you?
