Wow, what a night. That was my first U2 concert…and was easily the greatest night of my life. As anyone who tried to get tickets for this show knows…it was hard to say the least when capital tickets crashed when 85,000 people tried to get tickets at once. I was lucky and one of my friends managed to get on the site and got 2 extra tickets.
The concert started off great with The Arcade Fire who are one of the more unique bands out there right now, if you haven’t heard of them I highly suggest you take a listen.
So finally after a few rounds of the wave around the Corel Center the lights when down and the place went nuts. The moment everyone had been waiting for in this town for 20 years…U2 stepped on stage. The show started of great with City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, and Elevation, but after that in typical Ottawa fashion the crowd started to loose the intensity. I think one of the main reasons for this is U2 has an older fan base in Ottawa and they really didn’t know much of the new stuff which was done very well (Original of the Species and Love and Peace or Else). Then came the song most people were probably waiting for most, Sunday Bloody Sunday. From the first chord of that song till the end of the show the crowd did not sit back down. Bono brought a kid on stage for SBS and the kid chanted “no more” along with the 20000 other people in attendance. Once the first set was done I saw the most amazing thing, people leaving. I could not believe that people would actually leave a U2 concert early to beat traffic…what a disgrace. The two encores were awesome and left the crowd wanting more. All-in all a GREAT show and one I will surely never forget
