What an amazing night at the Corel Centre. This was my first U2 show and had been waiting 9 months for it. For some reason the crowd didn't get into it at the start for great songs like Vertigo, and Elevation, which I could not understand. Lots of people in my section were sitting down at any chance they could get and hardly anyone was making any noise. I felt very embarassed for the band and the city of Ottawa. When they announced Original of the Species hardly anyone cheered. Sunday Bloody Sunday got the crowd going and the whole crowd came together for Pride, Streets and One.
The first Encore for U2 was fantastic. You couldn't ask for anything better than Until the End of the World, Mysterious Ways, and With or Without You. In the second encore an acoustic version of Stuck in a Moment was perfect and "40" closing the show was a clincher.
U2 put on an amazing show but like a usual Ottawa crowd, they didn't return the favour. I have been to many Ottawa concerts and know what to expect but I was hoping they would be a great crowd that would want U2 to come back for their next tour but unfortunately that was not the case.
At the same time I have seen what an Ottawa crowd can do when the Corel Centre is filled with diehard fans. I saw that when I saw Pearl Jam in September which was said to better then the Montreal crowd. It seemed their were a lot of really old people who didn't make any noise or people who got tickets from their offices and weren't big fans which is very unfortunate. 95,000 people tried to get tickets so we know their is no shortage of huge U2 fans but it seemed that they all weren't there last night.
The Arcade Fire did a great job opening although it didn't seem like anyone was into them at all. A one point the lead singer had to tell the crowd to make some noise.
