Our fifth show this tour, tenth time seeing them overall going back to PoPMart. We saw them the four shows in Toronto, three of the four inside the Ellipse, the fourth from the back of the floor. So this show was a whole new experience as we were on The Edge’s side of the stage about 16 rows up in the lower level. Very cool to see the lighting on the stage from that point of view, you miss a lot when you’re on the floor, but then being so close to the band from the floor I can’t really complain.
Excellent show overall. Nice to see things have changed somewhat since September in Toronto. Great to see a different encore set and a few new additions in the main set as well, I Will Follow, Still haven’t Found. I have read over all the reviews for this show. I have to agree with some people saying the crowd was a little conservative at times, but it would seem it might have to do with the area you were sitting in. My sister was also at the show but she was on the opposite side of the stage from us and closer to the back, she said her section was up pretty much from the first notes of Wake Up (the intro version not the live version) So really it might have depended where you sat. But I have to agree that people leaving at the end of the main set are nuts, I guess they have never been to a concert before, here is a little tip, never leave until the lights come back on, that is the end of the show, not when the band says “thank you, good night”
It was fun to be there since it was there first show in 20 years in Ottawa, being from Toronto we are spoiled as they always play multiple shows. We spoke to a woman who had been waiting for this concert the past 20 years; she said this was a huge deal for the city of Ottawa to have U2 play here. That is very cool to hear, that a band can have such an impact on not just the people attending the show but the city as a whole.
Arcade Fire was awesome; I would say they are the best opening band I have seen at any show.
One more show for us this tour, going to Buffalo on the 9th, can’t wait!
