I've seen U2 on each tour since War and they still stand the test of time. What I loved about them in the early 80s was they were such a powerful live band and they still are.
My wife, Kirsten, and I arrived early in the morning to secure our place in the GA line and it paid off. We were among the first 90 people in the door and one of the first to win a spot in the Ellipse. We planted ourselves along the rail right in the middle of the stage. We had been a person or two away a few shows during Elevation, so this was our chance to be as close as possible.
The show wasn't as energetic as most of the Elevation shows I saw, but it was still a great show.
My wife is a huge Adam fan and she made herself a sign that said "Dance with me Adam." Adam saw it once and gave her big grin. Then Bono saw it later and looked over at Adam and they both laughed. It isn't often that some girl is asking to dance with Adam, they all want Bono. Those smiles were worth as much to her as if she actually got to dance with Adam.
The set list was pretty good, but not great. The sound was not optimal at this show. It was much better the second night. It was cool hearing The Electric Co. and The Ocean. Two songs I hadn't seen live in a long time.
Everybody was well behaved in the Ellipse. Very little pushing even when Bono would get close to the crowd. Running to Stand Still is also a favorite and was great to hear, although I didn't grasp the dedication to the US military, especially a song about heroin addiction. Maybe it was more about a sense of trying to overcome a difficult situation.
Anyway, a good show but not their best.
