The Buffalo 12/9 show was my wife's and my second show of the Vertigo tour. First being 5/28 Boston; which was the last show of the first leg.
In comparison, Buffalo blew Boston away by a mile. (After watching the "Vertigo-Chicago DVD" earlier in the week I feel that Buffalo could have replaced that with ease. Much much better) Never have I ever been to a less than stellar U2 show, but Buffalo seemed like it was on a whole other level than Boston. The crowd was buzzing long before U2 took the stage and when "Wake Up" started the fans seemed to go into a frenzy. All the members of U2 seemed just to be happy to be there. All very warm and excited. After Buffalo, I can honestly say that I truely believe that U2 feeds off of the crowds energy. To see Bono say "Wow" after "Vertigo" (as he was about 15 feet from us) was amazing. His reactions to the crowd after "Streets" was awesome. For those who really know U2 and see many of their shows know that when Bono has the crowd help sing select songs that says a lot about the crowd. U2 dictates as much of the show as an audience and in my opinion we were all their together reading off of the same page.
Our seats were unreal. Just totally unreal. Us four were not in GA. We were 2nd row section 116 and I would seriously not have traded these seats for GA. They were that good. Bono spent a lot of time right near us. Just seems surreal to see him so close being such a huge fan. My "Lennon" was within whispering distance away.
This show personally was a culmination of years of waiting for my sister to finally become a U2 diehard. My wife and I got two tickets for my sister and brother-in-law as their Christmas present. My sister was always a casual fan always giving U2's music and Bono's humanitarian efforts all due credit, but after Friday night she is lifelong hooked. She asked me during the break between "COBL" and "Vertigo" when we were going to see them again. I was just as excited to have my wife, sister and brother-in-law there as I was to be there myself. Maybe even more.
I'm not going to bore anyone with a song-by-song breakdown of my thoughts, but I felt that the set-list was perfect. (LAPOE especially) Sure, If I could have a "dream set-list" maybe I would have made a few changes, but this is U2 folks. The greatest live rock band ever. I cannot complain.
After feeling ill right before the show started and most of the duration of the show, I could not have asked for a better show to share with my wife, sister and brother-in-law. We had friends help us make this a more than memorable weekend. (Thank You Ana)
Bono was quoted at U2's 2005 RARHOF induction saying that the music industry "needs to take a long look at itself." I firmly believe that Bono was saying that they know their place in history. It's just like them to not flaunt it.
We all cannot wait to see them again. U2 is not this generations "Beatles" but the only U2.
Never will there ever be anyone better.
