Review of Philadelphia show July 14th, 2011: Could this possibly be the best concert EVER? It's quite possible. YES. I have seen every U2 tour since Zoo TV, and every time I have said "This is the best show ever". But, really, there must be something more to this than just mere emotions spilling over. U2 have continuously proven that they can top themselves when no one else can. Time after time, they have delivered an unforgettable and unique experience that concert goers cannot possibly forget. Even if the glorious stage production, lighting, and special effects were taken away, U2 still sound better every time. Tonight was flawless to my ear. Great band chemistry, coupled with a keen ear for nuance keep U2 head and shoulders above the up & coming bands. Interpol sounded impressive and I thoroughly enjoyed their set. However, when U2 take the stage it's almost immediately clear that Bono & Co. are on a nearly untouchable level with The Beatles. They have such a rich and varied song list and their level of showmanship is ridiculously good. I used to think Pink Floyd had the best shows, or that the Rolling Stones gave the best show. And while those bands are exceptional entertainers and musicians, U2...for me, provides an experience that is beyond the show itself. Call it spiritual, or otherworldly, there is nothing "...Better Than The Real Thing". Thanks to U2 for an extraordinary and unforgettable experience.
