Atlanta was an amazing show. From the moment they walked on stage and tore through Elevation until they waved goodbye at the end of Walk On. My brother and I made it into the heart, right in front of Bono, when he was actually on the main stage. (Have to mention how badly that security screwed things up outside. Everyone was pretty cool in the heart. But things got out of control outside because security didn't know what they were doing.) Concert highlights - 1. Bono's guitar playing. Much more than I ever expected. He played a solo during Gone that very impressive. His piano playing for Sweetest Thing was very solid. 2. New Stuff - Though I was very pleased with the setlist, I most enjoyed the new songs, especially Stuck in a Moment, A Little While and Sweetest Thing. 3. I loved the versions of Bad, New Year's Day and Sunday Bloody Sunday. They were throwback versions that could have come from 87. 4. The band was at their best. I've seen Joshua Tree tour, Zoo and PopMart, but musically, they were at their best Friday in Atlanta.
There may not be tons of surprises (Glad to see Gone, I Will Follow and Discotheque back), but they really seem to enjoying being on stage. Bono especially seemed to be having a ball. This is a show to see more than once so you can see what you missed. I'm looking forward to having seats in Lexington and being able to watch the screens since I couldn't seem them from where I was in the heart.
It was a great night. Glad I made the long journey. Great to meet so many people and look forward to getting Elevated with you again.
