I’ve seen U2 4 times now and this was far and above the best show I’ve ever seen them play. I was worried that the Omaha crowd wouldn’t be as loud or as into the music, but I was proved wrong. The crowd was rowdy and very much into the performance. You could tell that the band was feeding off the energy.
The entire night was electric and it was easy to see that the boys were having a great time up there. The Edge was jumping around a lot and there were a lot of smiles (except from Larry of course).
I was closest I’ve ever been to the main stage (in the ellipse) and it’s a very different show visually from sitting in a seat. The stage itself becomes less in the performance, and the emotion and actions of the band members become much larger. It’s nice to know that these guys are really THAT amazing of performers even when you can’t see the multimedia extravaganza that is the vertigo stage.
When I saw them in Minneapolis the first encore was all acoustic—which was a first for the tour if I’m not mistaken. Even though it was a nice set, I was glad to see U2 come out and tear through some up-beat music for their first encore.
Highlights of the show: Bullet the Blue Sky. The Edge seems to be adventuring into a lot of improve on his guitar solo now days and that’s fun to experience. Until the End of the World was thrilling to hear and see just as always. Stuck in a Moment was very beautifully done. I have to say I like the acoustic much more than the elevation tour version—it’s much more personal and touching.
U2 is simply an amazing experience.
I took about 250 photos during the show and have posted approximately 100 of the best ones on flickr. You can find them under the “atU2” group under “wjmp”.
