An amazing show to say the least. I have to say that the sound mix was absolutely amazing, and this may in part be due to the venue itself. The acoustics in the Qwest Center just seemed perfect to me.
I was outside the ellipse and really enjoyed the show from all aspects. I do wish that the band had utilized the ellipse a bit more; compared to the Elevation Tour, it seemed like they didn't take advantage of it as much. My only real complaint to speak of has nothing to do with the band. Some of the people standing around me just angered me a lot with their behavior, squeezing and pushing people around, spilling beer, talking at the top of their lungs trying to be funny, etc...You came to a CONCERT. Watch the show! ENJOY the music and the atmosphere that only this band can put on!
Despite the fact that some of the fans around me were unpleasant, I have to say that I am very proud of Omaha. I've lived in Nebraska for almost ten years now and didn't realize that such a die hard U2 contingent existed here. It really seemed to me that the majority of people who attended knew the lyrics to almost all the songs and were really into the concert altogether. You could definitely tell that the band was kind of shocked by it. Bono was clearly taken aback by the amount of crowd noise at certain points (particularly after Streets); he seemed genuinely surprised right before Elevation because it seemed like before Edge even played the first few riffs, the crowd knew what was coming and starting singing along.
I thought the set list was outstanding. To be honest, as much as I love the song, I'm glad they didn't play New Year's Day. Everything else was spot on though. In particular, I felt like I won the lottery when they played Crumbs, it was the one song I really wanted to hear on this tour and even though they screwed it up a bit they still did an outstanding job. To me, that's truly the sign of a great band, when they can give a song a shot and if it doesn't work out, they just enjoy it anyway. I think it's hilarious when they screw up on songs here and there, after all, they are human and I'm just greatful to hear them play live.
One tiny complaint about the playlist: No songs from "POP". I love that album and think that Gone or Last Night on Earth would have fit in well with some of the tunes. Also, The Fly is such an amazing live song and I would have loved to hear them play it. But...it's been said before, they have such a huge catalogue of music to choose from and only a certain amount of time to do it in, and they can't please everyone. Either way, I thought their song selection was great, I'm glad they switch things up from concert to concert and I'm certainly VERY happy with what they did play. I think it's great that they played a lot of songs from HTDAAB, I honestly think it is one of their masterpieces. For me, it ranks right up there with Joshua Tree and Achtung.
U2 are at their best, and only getting better. I can't thank them enough for coming to Omaha. I can't thank Omaha enough for being such a great crowd at the concert and showing the band how much we care about them, their music, and their message. Hopefully, on the next tour, they'll schedule more than one concert in Omaha!
