There is nothing like a U2 show and tonight was nothing short of brilliant. 9th U2 show. 1st 360. I was about 15 feet dead center, on the outside of the catwalk.
After months of anticipation and looking at all the pictures of the set, actually seeing it was completely different. Is is simply enormous, while at the same time not distracting from the show and band. "You have a pirate ship. We... have a spaceship."
Joe O'Herlihy... best stadium sound I've ever heard.
Over the course of two hours, you go from excited, angry, encouraged, and resolve by way of politics, church, and simply feeling like you did when you were in high school seeing your favorite band for the first time.
The politics were not left vs. right or Republican/Democrat stuff. They were about the horrible regime of Burma and standing with the people of Iran against their oppressive government. They were about the One Campaign, and recognizing the support of the United States in helping people we will never meet in countries we will never visit.
Bono leading a crowd of 70,000+ in the singing of "Amazing Grace" with the smell of marijuana in the background...
Part preacher.
Part chamin.
Part politician.
Part singer.
All rockstar.
