What a night! Pictures don't do the 360 stage any justice, especially once you see all the lighting and screen functioning. It was clear there was not a bad sightline in the place. This monster of a set really does help everyone see.
But it doesn't bring everyone closer. That's U2's job and they did it gloriously. This is the first time I've ever gotten to see them in a packed stadium and I must say that it makes the arena shows from Vertigo and Elevation seem like minor affairs. Those were great shows, but U2's music was meant for these stadiums. They're the only act I've seen in a stadium that didn't seem out of place there.
The audience was a major part too. Hearing 72,000 people sing I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Amazing Grace, Streets, etc was just an amazing thing.
And U2 had a nicely mixed up setlist with old and new. It's easy to find thing's that I'd have liked them to play, but their catalog is so vast at this point that they could play for four hours and still leave people unsatisfied.
The new songs came off well and the Crazy Tonight remix was a lot of fun. But kicking into Mysterious Ways as #3 in the set was a wise move because that's when everyone got involved with singing and dancing. From the floor I could see the people in the upper decks clearly enjoying themselves.
And the sound! Wow! This setup was the best sounding show I've ever heard. Crisp, clear, and well mixed. Adam's bass, Larry's drums, Edge's guitar, and Bono's voice all clear, loud, and beautiful.
And Bono's voice! He got up there during a couple songs but really wowed at the end with Moment of Surrender. Spacing out these shows seems to make it so he's able to keep his voice in good shape.
It seemed at the end that even Bono was pretty blown away by the crowd. I can't wait for next summer because I will definitely go catch them somewhere.
