U2 show in C'ville was fantastic. Still not sure how it came to be that they played this small college town but I definitely enjoyed it. I have seen them once before (Vertigo tour, 2nd show in DC at MCI). The stadium show didn't leave me with the same emotional high I had after the MCI arena show. I think the crowd in Cville was a little tepid and you just don't get the same thunderous acoustics from the applause that you get in the indoor show. However, the acoustics from the music were incredible outdoors as were the visuals - kudos to their sound and creative/lighting team. I also think that U2 could have arranged the songs to have better flow. They had the crowd going after Elevation but then went into Your Blue Room. I give them props for doing what artistically is meaningful and enjoyable to them but most of the crowd had never hefard it and probably won't latch onto a song like Your Blue Room; maybe it belongs elsewhere in the set. Bottom line - the standard for a U2 live show is off the charts in comparison to other bands and while I enjoyed the smaller areana show more, I still had a great time and it was a big night for Charlottesville that U2 delivered on.
