Having seen the band for the first time at Murrayfield in 97 (which was a great gig) I was uncertain at how this U2 experience would go down in an arena like the SECC! I have in the past been dissapointed with poor qaulity of sound at the venue for such gigs like The Prodigy and Smashing Pumpkins!
Needless to say though that the band put on an entertaining show even though at times the sound quality resembled that of a poor cheap Hi-Fi being turned up too loud!
The gig was pretty intimate and Bono made sure the audience got involved and they obliged without hessitation! The screens above the stage which highlighted each member of the band was a great idea and the stage itself looked great!
Blasting off with the recent hit Elevation certainly got everyone in the mood for the night! The somber Kite track in dedication to his father got the crowds upmost attention by contrast the crowd was definetly at fever pitch during old favourite's I Will Follow, Sunday Bloody Sunday and Where The Streets Have No Name! It was a long and energetic set, something some of the younger bands of the day wouldn't dream of doing!
Before the first encore, screens on stage showed images of war and the destruction it causes and how countries like UK, USA, France, China and Russia are partly to blame for selling arms, the band reappeared on stage & blasted into my highlight of the night Bullet The Blue Sky, The Edge at his finest! All in all by the end of the gig the SECC crowd was ecstatic and I was dead on my feet, I had taken my Dad along with us as he is a an old time fan, he had a smile as broad as the Clyde by the end! Mostly down to the fact they played his all time fave BAD!
