About 60 fans from Los Angeles had decided to charter a bus to drive there. We left at 6am with U2's music on for all seven hours. We came to the stadium and were amused by scalpers begging us to take their tickets priced up to $20 (original price $5). It was raining a light mist. I worked the Amnesty Int'l booth and was able to witness the soundcheck which included Spanish Eyes and Mothers of the Disappeared. U2 hadn't played in a week save for soundchecks at 4am Thursday, so they were very loose this evening. U2 fandom had come to the conclusion that this event was being filmed and was on cue. The band felt constraned by all the cameras and watching Bono fly in the face of that was amusing for us, disconcerting for the crew. During Out of Control, not on the setlist, Bono was on the ramp twenty yard from the stage most of the song. During Mothers- all four of them came to the front and performed left to right Edge, Bono, Adam, and Larry, this wasn't captured full color, more of a sepia tone, like Pride in the second video. The band was very deliberate to teach us El Pueblo Vencera (We will overcome), hopefully this will be included in a compilation. When this concluded I thought the concert had ended but for encores, People Get Ready leading straight to "40" many samples of Do They Know it's Christmas and Hallelujuah made my evening a very contented one.
Later that night at the Holiday Inn, Angelelinos mixed freely with fans from New Mexico, Massachusetts, New York, and Washington state. All of us related the multiple night stories of witnessing U2 throughout the Joshua Tree tour.
