I guess that just posting on this forum is a testimony to how good U2 was. Whilst I have always been a fan of U2, it has only been in the shadow of my older brother and his wife as well as one of my good friends. See these 3 people have always promoted and encouraged me to get into U2, it was not something I rejected, more I didn't share their passion.
Originally I was supposed to go to the Melbourne concert in March. After it was cancelled it was re-scheduled to a time that I was supposed to be in Africa. I then gave up my tickets but forever regretted what will turn out to be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Fortunately, my desire to go was a lot stronger then I could have imagined, I was able to purchase tickets for the Sydney show last Friday.
So myself, my wife and 3 close friends inclusive of my best mate all travelled to Sydney from Canberra friday arvo. Ok the support act wasn't brilliant, but it added to the anticipation of U2. Not long after 8.30, it started pouring, however, we were in the stands and under cover. A loud cheer erupted as Bono, Adam, Larry and the Edge made there way out and behind the stage, the lights went out and what took place over the following two hours would be one of the most memorable experiences I have ever had.
Emotion soared during Sunday bloody Sunday, the excitement increased during my top 3 being Streets, One and of course With or Without You. The tribute to Bono's father and remembering the African nations were all spectacular.
Not only did I walk away ecstatic about the event that took place, one of the girls with us, previously not a big fan of U2, mostly interested in local and JJJ bands was converted. She summed it up with 'that was amazing' and now her myspace features the new 'The Saints are coming'.
I totally believe I will never have an experience like this again. I look forward to telling my children (whom my wife is pregnant with our first) all about what took place.
U2, simply uncomparable.
