U2 Inc in full force. This is more like a Broadway production of U2 The Musical than a real concert. Same songs, same speeches, same everything, entirely choreographed. Not an ounce of spontanaiety or jamming. So sad to see. It's embarrasing at some points. Especially when during Pride when Bono sounds like Mickey Mouse when he yells out "A dream big enough for the whole WORLD!!!"
What is worse is it comes from laziness. Bono hates to rehearse so they just pulled out the songs from last tour and the new songs. Did not take any time to learn anything else. An Cat Dubg/Heart is perfect example- they played that last tour so it was easy to bring back (great live by the way) For $300 a pop you'd think we get more effort.
As everyone knows they have been getting trashed in local Chicago media- true music fans can easily see through this corporate charade
The problem is that most are casual radio fans and it is hard to argue with the corwds reaction to the classics- energy for Streets is insane.
I love the band, the new album, but I give up on them live until they announce their inevitable "back to basic small venue tour" where they will have to stop playing Pride for the 2 millionth time.
Worst cop-out, excuse line ever was Bono saying "We don't live in the past, we'll take a few songs like Pride and Sunday but we only look to the future" i.e.- we'll play the greatest hits to make money, we are too lazy to re-learn the amazing songs that made us who we are, and you will still come. You move forward from bad break-ups, mistakes, or steroids in baseball, not from the work that brought you fans, fame, and fortune. Give me a break.
How on earth can they play the almost exact same set list 4 shows in a row in the same city- nobody does that, not even the Stones- these guys need to go watch a few Pearl Jam and Springsteen concerts to learn the difference between playing for the music and the music fans and not the dollar and marketing. Somehow PJ and Bruce manage to sell out all arena shows without relying on being a greatest hits cover band of themsleves.
