great show. great timing. just four days before i turn 30, this show became a nostalgic trip through my second two decades.
early on, bono mentioned playing in chicago to 14 people way back in the day (1980?). thereafter, i felt the show had that sort of quality to it.
yes, the band has a huge crew that handles all kinds of electronic enhancements, lights, etc, which are what you need for an arena show.
HOWEVER, the pace of the concert (despite a pre-arranged set-list) felt like a small-club show at times. there were awkward pauses between songs; they played a lot of rare songs; and while some of the monologues missed, others made the show memorable.
the beauty of a show like this is that it doesn't feel staid in such a large venue. during certain moments, everything came together. during others, not so much. i prefer this type of show to one where the band rips through a bunch of overly rehearsed songs. instead, u2 played a show show that is unique and imperfect, and thus, human.
moments when it all came together: Electric Co., Sunday Bloody Sunday, Miss Sarejevo, Pride, Streets, Fly, With or Without You, The First Time, and BAD - 40.
