So I find myself a little disappointed. All that money to see my favorite band and I think i have become too much of a fan. I keep telling myself, "do not look at setlists," "allow yourself to be surprised." You know what, though? U2 has stopped doing this. They no longer surprise us. We expect certain things. Let's be honest. How many people out there wished for Discoteque knowing they played it on Tuesday night? I don't want a greatest hits tour but they are beginning to perform a lot like Oasis. Same set list every show with a couple of variations each night.
I wish I could have gotten my ticket at a discounted price. I saw the exact same show on May 12 in Chicago with the exception of maybe 5 songs in a 20+ song set. Maybe I could have paid only 20% because I saw the other 80% in May.
Please, don't get me wrong. Hearing HORSES and FAST CARS was great. Even SARAJEVO. However, Bono, shut up and sing. If I wanted to hear you talk, I wouldn't have paid to hear you sing. We all know about the ONE campaign, DATA, and many of the other causes you help bring recognition to. Hell, you have tables in the concourse.
I know this review is going to anger many people. I just think that a band that gives us so much shouldn't give us the same thing every day. Please, guys. Don't turn into Mick and the money-hogging Stones and do just a greatest hits tour. At the same time, you could learn something from those Englishmen. Switching up the set isn't a bad thing.
