This was my second U2 show (the first being Vertigo in 2005 - Twickenham). However, I have been a U2 fan for many years!

My gut reactions to this show in order of priority i.e. the main thoughts as I left the stadium after the show, are as follows:

1) I was dissappointed by the poor quality of the sound. It was distorted, the vocals and bass were particularly poor. Elbow, the support act, seemed clearer to me...

2) The tour is a 'best of' in terms of set list and the great sensation of seeing the band live is quickly overtaken by tired and traditional live songs. I guess its the challenge of appeasing different types of audience.

3) The band seemed to rattle through the songs and were far less engaging when compared to the Vertigo tour four years ago.

4) Unforgettable fire and Ultraviolet were great.

5) The lighting and video screen were fantastic.

Overall, I can see why U2 stick with the 'best of/greatest hits tour formula as they have to appeal to a wide ranging audience. However, for the US leg of the tour I would recommend the following tweaks to the set list:

a) Re: The bands first appearance on stage. Walk onto the stage with "Alex Descends into Hell for Bottle of Milk" playing - drop David Bowie. Promote Magnificent to first song.

Breathe should be the final song of the night - go out on a high. Moment of Surrender should end the first main set prior to final encore.

b) The mirror ball lighting effects are great during the final encore and should be used appropriately! Drop With or Without You and bring in a clean crisp version of Discotheque.

c) Bring some more songs from No Line Album in like Fez Being Born and Stand Up and remove tired songs like Sunday Bloody Sunday and Pride.
