I've been waiting a few years to see U2, as I missed their show back in Johanessburg in the 90's. We landed up with real dud tickets, side view and up in the clouds, where the atmosphere was dire and the sound not too good. That was until Beautiful Day sounded out, the entire stadium erupted, along with spotting some empty seats a bit lower down, the evening turned. The energy around the ground was electric, I don't think there were many there that could resist the buzz - awesome - alive.
I'm also not a fan of pop groups harping on about political issues, but the bit on Burma really opened my eyes, I'd never thought of the country before last night. Bringing on the volunteers was a heartwarming touch, everyone showed their admiration towards these people and I'm sure there a thousands more people aware of the plight of the Burmees nation. This awareness campaign was also linked with one of my all time favourites Sunday Bloody Sunday, which is the one song I've always wanted to see live and sing along with. It was a special moment for me, the highlight of my evening. I was also impressed with Desmond Tutu's speach, promoting the One charity.
Some other special moments to mention (there are actually too many to mention) must include; the crowd singing with only some drummimg backround, throwing in some other artists songs in the mix (2 Tribes by Frankie, Fool to cry by The Stones)and the crowd creating the Milky Way in the Stadium.
U2 must be one of the greatest all time bands, apealing to all generations. They also show a good appreciation for thier fans, making sure that every single person that comes to see them will leave with a special memory. Thanks guys.
