After a canceled gig the night before, this becomes U2's first show in the United States. Rolling Stone writer Jim Henke is in attendance, as is concert promoter Frank Barsalona, who has booked U2's tour without ever seeing the band perform live. After seeing tonight's show, he knows he's booked a winner. Ellen Darst of Warner Brothers, Island Records' US distributor, is also at the show to scout the band and report back to the label so it can decide how much money and energy to put into promoting U2. Darst will later be hired by Principle Management and become a key member of U2's inner circle.
