U2 has performed 135 concerts featuring songs from No Line On The Horizon.
Songs Of Innocence was U2's thirteenth studio album, and was released on September 9, 2014. Recording took place as far back as 2008 when U2 was considering a second companion album to No Line On The Horizon, which they then refered to as Songs Of Ascent. Moving forward those inital sessions with Lanois and Eno gave way to sessions with producer Danger Mouse, and later still to sessions with Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, Flood and Declan Gaffney as producers. Danger Mouse is listed as the album producer, but the others all share production credits on various songs on the album. Recording of the album took place in Dublin (Strathmore House), New York (Electric Lady Studios), Los Angeles (The Woodshed, Shangri-La), and London (The Church, Assault and Battery)
The album was first announced at the keynote address by Apple where they announced the iPhone 6 and the Apple Watch. The album was not only announced that day, but also made available on iTunes on the same day (September 9, 2014). The album was also made available for free, and Bono explained that Apple had paid U2 for the album, and it was Apple that was gifiting the album to its customers. The album was listed in the purchased tracks of 500 million iTunes users for a month. There was some backlash about this push into peoples accounts, which lead to Apple releasing a U2-removal tool the following week.
The physical release of the album is due on October 10, 2014, with the UK release falling on October 13, and the USA release falling on October 14. The physical release came in a deluxe format that included bonus tracks not available on the iTunes version, as well as several acoustic versions of songs. The in-store commercial version also featured a different cover than the version released through iTunes.
The first single "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)" was played during the keynote address at Apple, and was released as a promotional single. To date there has not been a commercial single released, either physical or digital although artwork for a single has been seen on the promotional copies.
