The U2 Conference ended in Belfast on Friday. Monday I flew out of Dublin, arrived at Dulles, drove downtown DC, checked into my room, then walked a block to the Capital One Arena. I shared my iphone with others so they could see the waterfall pouring from the screen. I noticed signs that indicated there was filming, not sure if this will surface later in a video. I was tired but The Blackout just blew the roof off. AWESOME. The band was in fine form. You can see the setlist elsewhere at this site.
I had seen this tour in Chicago. There were two surprises for me in DC. First, the crowd responded to "American Soul" as if it were a long cherished standard. The energy was palpable. Second the crowd joined in singing the fillers on "Love is bigger than anything in its way." Bono looked surprised and pleased.
This was the event that really capped my U2 conference experience. Let's just call it an add-on.
