I've been a U2 fan forever so needless to say I was pumped for a week before the show. We spent about an hour and a half in traffic which was a bummer but got to our 9th row center stage seats about 9pm.
The stage and video screen were very impressive, especially up close. The quality of the video that close was marginal but I guess it's designed for the people in the back.
When the show started my first thought when I saw the boys was how they have aged!!! Bono has a little grey on his temples which really surprised me. Overall the show lacked some of the emotion of earlier tours.
Here's my breakdown.
Low points -- all the slow stuff, Bono had a hard time getting on key on velvet dress, If god will send his angels and staring at the sun. discoteque was terrible, very anticlimatic after coming out of the lemon. It didn't seem very loud either.
Now the high points-- some of the weakest songs on the POP CD are please and miami. Unbelievably these two songs were the highlight of the show live. Please really rocked and miami saw bono really show-boating up and down the B-stage. Edge did some awesome work on Bullet, until the end of the world, daydream believer (edge has an awesome voice!) and the whole band really rocked on HMTMKMKM. Great live song.
During bullet an unruly fan got up on stage and was immediately tackled by three security guys. Bono struts over and the guy pleads for mercy w/ bono which he gives. Bono walks the guy down the B-stage aisle and the idiot is going crazy. When Bono starts singing "slapping em down, 100! 200!", the guy starts getting money out of his pocket and drops rolling papers on the stage. Bono picks them up gives them to the guy and says, "No thanks I don't do drugs"
During Still haven't found, before the last verse, (i believe in the kingdom come) Bono says "lets go to church!! and leave the religion at home. I thoght that was awesome.
Overall i really enjoyed the show, I hated to see it end and I missed Love is blindness. I wish they would bring that song back to close the show.
Joshua tree tour better, Zoo tv tour better, but its still U2. Lastly whats the deal with Bono's buzz cut?
