fifth time seeing the boys since joshua tree in 87. second time this tour. saw them in oakland 11/9. drove eleven hours from our home near lake tahoe to see them in salt lake. our mission: see bono up close and have him touch my wife's pregnant belly before the show.
got to salt lake around 3ish. all i can say is COLD! left hotel and we were going to take a trolly to the delta center. met another couple from dallas who were there to see the show as well(awesome people). all decided it was too cold to wait for train and decided on taxi. asked taxi driver to drop us off at side where a small crowd had gathered near the loading entrance. taxi driver said he would drop us off at other side because it would be closer to front entrance of delta center. as we drove past we noticed a lot of camera flashes going off. asked taxi driver to stop once again but it was too late, we were already driving around the next corner.(we were in a mini van, sitting in the back or i would have jumped out) he eventually dropped us off on the furthest side from laoding dock. by the time we ran (wife waddled) to the other side, bono had already walked back in. we talked to a couple of ladies who showed us their recently taken pics. HE WAS RIGHT THERE JUST A MINUTE BEFORE!!! Grrrr :0 the ladies said Bono seemed to be in great spirits and probably would have touched her belly.
oakland always seems to be a more emotional stop. maybe because of the more liberal views of the bay, closeness to uc berkeley? all i can say about the fans of salt lake is WOW! very energetic and loud. we all know how the boys feed off the crowds energy and this crowd did not disapoint. bono seemed healthy and his voice was right on. he ran around the elipse a lot and sang to the back rows as well. adam ventured out onto the elipse a couple of times and smiled a lot. edge..two words...on fire! jumping around a lot and into the crowd. larry, always outstanding. his arms seem to get bigger each time we see him. bono brought three people up this night. a girl in a santa outfit, a young boy who spoke a little into the mic, and then a very energenic girl who dance with him a while. bono appeared to like this and dance a bit with her. she was going to leave stage with his hat and he seemed to playfully slap her hand as in, "bad girl for taking my hat."
we had nose bleed seats but it was still amazing. i had heard people say the sound in delta center wasn't that good but we thought it was great. and trust me, we were in the last possible row in the upper level, side stage. we would have known if it was bad. even in this upper level all the fans were off their seats most of the show. bty, kanya was great.
we left the final oncore about two songs early and waited near the exit doors for the show to be over so we could run out to loading entrance. by the time we got there, the whole band had left with a police escort in a hurry. such is life. :)
took us forever to get back to california. hit numerous snow storms and iced roads. but would do it all again! it's U2 after all!
some pics of our view and a tattoo i got.
