This was my second U2 concert - first was the Popmart show at Foxboro back in 1997. I'm thrilled to have two U2 experiences that were both fantastic, yet completely different.
Our seats for Monday night were in the end zone across from the stage, roughly under the lighthouse. Sound throughout the concert was loud, but generally well mixed. There were a few times that Bono seemed drowned out by the rest of the band, but honestly - a little more of Edge's guitar work is never a bad thing!
Setlist was very good - I did miss seeing Pride and New Years Day performed (two songs that gave me chills at Popmart), but on the other hand got to experience Sunday Bloody Sunday live for the first time, along with the crowd insanity during Elevation, Beautiful Day, and Vertigo. I thought the blend of the new album and older songs was excellent.
Magnificent was a perfect opener - it got everyone on their feet dancing and singing. Only Blue Room seemed to be a bit of a dull note. It is a good song, but just didn't quite fit in the lineup - maybe a reorder would help it?
We lucked out with both seat and parking location that we didn't have to deal with the infamous Gillette traffic jam after the concert - we stayed the entire concert, left, and only spent about 15 minutes in traffic(although we had packed a cooler to prepare for hanging out to let the mess clear). It's the one downside I've found to experiencing anything at Gillette, but with preparation, it can be handled. Just don't plan on going anywhere quickly. Stay, bring munchies, and play the music as you wait.
Great night - and I hope it won't be 12 years before I have the opportunity to see them again.
