I have read a lot of accounts of the Sat April 09 SJ show, some loved it, some thought it was so-so, some were disappointed. As a veteran of U2 concerts (12 shows, the first March 2, '85, LA Sports Arena), I thought it met all my requirements for a great time. The band mixed classics (hadn't heard 'Electric Co.' since the first time I saw it, and it was only the second time I had heard '40' since the '80s). Of course, it was an even more incredible experience Sat night because my wife's ticket beeped. We were dead center with Bono, 10 feet back. Hadn't been that close since the last show of fall leg of Pop Tour at the old Seattle Kingdome, a night it also ended show with 40 (row five, middle). Come to think of it, I think we were even closer Sat. Anyhow, Sat was a concert I'll never forget. It was right up there with old the LA Sports Arena shows (best venue ever to see U2, in my opinion), that night in Seattle and the $5 show for Rattle & Hum at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. Sound is challenging in SJ -- but it seemed fine from our location. I know some people thought the set list could have been better (new fans wanted more recent songs; old fans wanted more classics). That's going to happen when you have 25 yrs worth of music to choose from. (My wife & I thought it was cool talking to a bunch of first-timers; how many bands from my generation can keep attracting new fans? Uh, none?) Bottom line is the band tried to please as many folks as possible and, from this account, did one hell of a job -- as always. I'll definitely keep coming back.
