"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". That seems to be the theme when you read through the reviews posted so far. I have seen U2 many times over the last 20 plus years dating back to the Unforgettable Tour in SF in 84. From where I was sitting(standing), I thought the show on Saturday night was amazing. My seats weren't the greatest (Upper Bowl Section 213)but my area was going crazy. It wasn't the best crowd I have experienced ( I was at the legednary 2nd San Jose Show in 2001)but I still felt it showed U2 a lot of love. To say the crowd sucked is a bit heavy handed.
The acoustic problem a lot of people have talked about was indeed true. From where I was sitting, it was hard to hear what Bono was saying in between songs.
The song selection was great. To hear Electric Co. live again.......and The Ocean......very special. I wish they would break out A Day Without Me or Shadows and Tall Trees.
The new songs sounded really good....Miracle Drug was awesome....Bono's voice sounded very strong. Love and Peace Or Else live gave me a new appreciation for the song.
The acoustic version of Yaweh worked really well and to have the show close with "40" is how all U2 shows should close.
The choice of songs and what order they are played is very important to a good flow at a concert. Saturday's show for the most part flowed pertty well. I'm sure as the tour goes on they will discover what works to maximize the energy of the crowd. I'm seeing them again in Denver next week...it will be interesting to see how the show flows there. Next stop after that....Oakland...see you there.
