My girlfriend and I saw U2 last night at Invesco Field in Denver. For me, it was the 2nd time (I saw them over 10 years ago during their Pop Mart tour), while it was my girlfriend's 1st time ever seeing them.
I gotta tell you, this band is something very special! So many different things made it a memorable night for us: The packed house; the sweet set list; the $40 million stage that took 4 days to set up; the factoids on the big screen before they took stage; the wave in the crowd prior to U2 entering the spotlight; the unforgettable music that gave us chills and made us smile; etc...
The general positive vibration that spread through the stadium was remarkable. I have never been a part of a better wave then the one that took place before U2 took stage. The entire stadium took part!
The political messages and opinions of Bono and the band were very well communicated in a manner that was appreciated, effective and not over the top.
We enjoyed the factoids that were revolving around the screen before the main event started. It was very interesting information that served as a wonderful conversation piece as we waited for the music.
There was never a dull moment from the time that we walked into the stadium, until the show was over! There was so much going on as far as lights, music, moving bridges on the stage and the awesome video screen which showed videos, speaches, cool statistics and the band of course, that our senses were cranked to high! It was magical!
I also thought that it was nice of Bono to acknowledge the long wait due to his back surgery. It made for a more personal experience.
They played songs that were almost expected, but they also threw some surprises in there that were amazing, like: "All I want is you" and "Zooropa".
The weather was perfect last night! Not a drop of rain during the show and colorful clouds above as the sun set.
The tickets were expensive, the parking prices were ridiculous, t-shirts were on sale for $40 and beers were $8, so it was certainly a big hit to the bank account, but I'll tell ya, those 4 guys and what they produce for the performance, is larger than life! It's unbelievable! You just can't understand it unless you are there!
It was a special experience that we will hold dear in our memories for years to come. We had very high expectations going into the show and they were met and then exceeded during one of the greatest performances I have ever been a part of! Go see these guys...trust me.
