Last week, on reviewing U2's final night in Boston (June 9), I stated that "a band's last night is usually their best". Last night's gig at MSG, however, changed my mind.

The atmosphere was incredible. I wasn't on the floor this time; however, I had some great seats in section 232, facing the exact center of the stage. Bono's voice was in top form, and the Edge sounded incredible as ever. It was good to hear the crowd go mental when Bono announced it was Paul McGuinness's birthday, the manager that has carried them through since day one.

I knew that the opening night in NYC would be bitterweet, considering it was their first time playing here since the death of Joey Ramone. It was great to hear "In A Little While", the song I hadn't heard live on the tour yet, and the crowd sing-along on "I Remember You". In fact, the crowd seemed to be singing along constantly. "I Will Follow" really got the crowd going, and it sounded incredible; the best performance of it I have heard. I was a bit disappointed that the crowd didn't get into "Sunday Bloody Sunday" as much as the Boston show, but it was still endearing. "The Fly" was also excellent, with Bono doing his "fly on the wall" pose. "Stay" was beautiful in its own right.

All in all, the show was absolutely amazing. The goal was certainly elevation. This will be my last time seeing them on this tour (unless they return in the fall). Thanks for the memories!

PJ Harvey, yet again, played a brilliant opening set.
