This review is a bit late, but considering this show took place 1 year ago tonight, I figured it's a good time to reminisce about the best U2 show I've ever seen. Being that I saw U2 eighteen times last year, it's tough to really pinpoint one show as being the best. The final show at MSG in October comes to mind because of the emotional impact and the firemen coming on stage, etc. Slane Castle was a very special show as it was their big homecoming. However, after thinking about all the memories, setlists, venues, crowds, etc., I have to say with 100% certainty that this performance was the best that I've seen through 27 experiences since Zoo TV. From listening to bootlegs and seeing the video of this show, I was quickly reminded of the fire that U2 played with on this beautiful Sunday night. From their "understated" stage entrance to the last chords of Walk On, U2 played as if "their lives were on the line." There's no question that on this Father's Day evening, U2 totally reaffirmed why they're the best band in the world. This was the official night where they "got the job back." There's no place like Madison Square Garden to do it. As the other New York song says, "if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere." With all of this said, there's really one thing that allows me to talk about how great this show was. One thing that truly stands as a tiebreaker that places this show just one step ahead of the others. I got to spend a great evening with one of the best people in the world. Thanks Ilana for being there for your first show and my favorite show!! You're the best!!!
