What can I say about this concert other that WOW...from the begining of the day at 11:30 am till the end of the night in the Heart, it truly was a beautiful day!
There was a buzz in the air, and you could feel it all day long...meeting people from all over and especially fellow New Yorkers, made this a very memorable day...
Getting inside the Heart was a thrill and there was a feeling the second you got in there that it was going to be some show...Garbage was a great opening act and I think they felt the crowds energy, and that enery only got bigger and bigger.
"All you need is love" came on and the crowd began to get energized. Then came "Seargent Pepper" and the crowd grew louder and louder. I think the boys from Dublin felt the energy back stage, because as soon as "Elevation" started, they came out pumped and the concert just got better and better as it went on.
I know many of the songs got mentioned but my memories of this concert was 20,000 New Yorkers coming together to let of 6 weeks worth of pent up emotions...some of my memories of the concert...the joy on Bono's face seeing this New York crowd...to his happiness about the IRA laying down their weapons. Another memory is Sean, who camped out all night to see U2 and took down the fans names and gave them nubers during the line up, getting on stage during "Stuck" and giving Bono a monster hug and not letting go. Young Sean showed off his "JOshua Tree" tatoo on his back with the tree on his shoulder blade and some writing which I could not make out...but, Bono had a great time reading and singing at the same time! And incredible moment and well deserved!
More memories...the young lady who came out on stage to play the guitar and sing along to "Knocking on Heaven's Door." She was great, and her appearance was also well deserved as she camped out all night to see the boys! Something tells me the Edge better watch out, his job maybe in jeopardy!
Then during bad, the entire heart as well as the outside of the heart, raised signs with "40" It was an incredible sight as about 300 of us picked up those signs which were made by two young ladies waiting on line in the morning, one of them happened to also be our guitar player! The look on Bono's face from the tip of the Heart as he turned to look at the Edge on Stage was priceless. I think he was a bit take aback.
The most lasting memory that will stand out was during "One." As the list of names of those that died, on the airplanes, the members of the NYPD as well as those of the FDNY started scrolling up the screen. U2 did a great job of paying tribute to those heroes. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house...especially as Bono, the Edge, and Adam turned to look at the names. This great concert song became even better.
There were son many great memories of this show from the waiting on line, to the concert, to the crowd chanting "let's go Yankees!" To the band just being on and being elevated by the crowd and the crowd being elevated by the band. A great tour just keeps getting better and better...
Thank you boys for a wonderful time!
