"What a show...what a city...what a stadium...Vertigo 05 UK tour,it's all over".And what a great venue to close this leg of the tour.
There were people from all over the UK.The stadium was buzzing long before U2 took to the stage.starsailor and The Killers both performed great sets, which served to arouse the already buzzing 60,000 strong crowd.I was there with my wife,my mate and his partner,we were very fortunate to be inside the golden circle, just yards from the catwalk on the Adam Clayton side.
(I have always dreamed about being at the front.)
The band came on at 8.30 and tore into Vertigo,my voice all-but broke down there and then. The stadium went into a total frenzy, which never really wained, then The Edge opened I will Follow followed by my show highlight - The Electric Co..The call and reply by Bono at the beginning of Elevation was great,Adam shook the foundation of the stadium with his bass part on New Year's Day with Bono informing the crowd, whilst pointing at Adam,"This song belongs to that man!".Beautiful Day,Still Haven't Found + All I Want were magnificent. The new songs were just as well received,Blinding Lights,Miracle Drug(which Bono dedicated to the doctors and nurses..."especially the nurses!").Sometimes was as beautiful as you could expect it to be.Bono took the the drums for Love and Peace, before Larry erupted into Sunday Bloody Sunday followed by Bullet and the pace slowed for Running.Pride and Streets came next and were all in U2 heaven.
The encore of Zoo Station,The Fly + With Or Without You was a real special moment for me.The second encore bought us All Because Of You,Yahweh and a more pacier, louder version of Vertigo, which was accompanied by a lavish screen display.
This was a truly special concert, with an extra special crowd. And as for being at the front....sometimes,just sometimes dreams really do come true.
Cheers,
Scott.
