Friday Nov 26, 2010, Mt Smart Auckland NZ: Concert 2 - "Last night was a great night, tonight will be better! Why? Because we can! And because we can, we must"... Bono speaking similar lines as he compares U2's two NZ concerts and the brilliance that those in attendance witnessed! From the time they naturally strolled into the stadium several minutes early to Bowies Space Odyssey, I felt they were here just to entertain my wife and I! They captured us from that point. Opening with ‘Beautiful Day’ was scene setting for what would be a wonderful night. My personal favorite was ‘City of Blinding Lights’ and Bono’s repeated plea to the world, “Blessings not just for the ones who kneel… luckily” is always special and intimate for the avid listener. “In A Little While” was just magic to hear live, and The Edges’ perfection in “Magnificent”, literally was. And Larry and Adam were so controlled with their timing, they could do this for another 20 years! The evening closed and I found myself folding to my knees as we took in “Moment of Surrender”. The boys thanked the Kiwis and then left the stage as naturally as they arrived, with Elton John's “Rocket Man” whispering in the background.
We loved it, will long for it again and just believe in this band and everything it stands for. U2 delivered. Their physical set, their theatrics’, their presence…seemed to make the world feel a little bit smaller in those moments. Auckland went crazy tonight!
