Munich was average. Ok, maybe I made the big fault of expecting
too much...Maybe it was a fault to follow the sets before on the web. There
was this piano and the chair aside, so I was looking forward to The Sweetest Thing, which
they didn´t play, nor The Ground Beneath Her Feeds! I really expected one of those! Cologne was lucky: Edge started playing Stay (I read) but then played The Ground Beneath Her Feeds!
The place
behind the stage, though, was better than expected. Stage and heart were
good visible - at first. But the video walls behind Larry: I could only see his head
when it raised up. Any row below must have been very bad! 54 Euro for seeing
nothing at times. The large video screens: Why didn´t they use them (also behind the stage) all along the show? At some
songs, a sort of black "mustique courtain" was pulled down, which made the view difficult
for those behind it (i.e. at WOWY, it was hard to see Bono and the girl he took on stage).
I found the set average (i.e. good: Gone, Kite, In A Liitle While; not so good: Desire (acc.), Stay, New Years Day after Until The End Of The World, like in the last two tours). But tastes are different, of course.
Very good was i.e. SBS. Bono laid down an irish banner (like it was over a
coffin) and sang: "Jhonny was a good man..." Sadly, the accoustic was bad (venues
failure), it was too loud. Why do all concerts have to be so loud? At the
second half I thought, Edge played false all the time and Bono was singing
wrong, but that was the bad accoustic, no doubt. But I don´t wanna go to a
concert with my ears plugged. Bono said in Cologne:"You are louder than the americans." But no great talk in Munich. I
didn´t have the impression they are getting warm with the audience (just
like 1992). But I understand that you can´t have a "relationship" with all
towns you visit when they are so many and so often changing.
Nevertheless, it was a great and personal event seeing them live, and not to compare with
any written review I read from other shows! The hall was cooking and also for me, it was the most "moving" concert from U2 so far.
