U2 proved to 55,000 fans at Subi (Sorry but I don't like the name Patterson's Stadium) on Saturday Night that they shouldn't have to re-apply for the job of 'World's Greatest Rock And Roll Band'. From coming on stage to David Bowie's 'Space Oddity' before ripping into a rocking new song 'Return Of The Stingray Guitar', the four much loved lads from Dublin played an energetic mix ranging from classic hits (Pride/I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking for/Where The Streets Have No Name/With Or Without You) to much of their finest songs from the last decade (Beautiful Day/Vertigo/City Of Blinding Lights/Magnificent).
Surprises were the inclusions of 'Scarlet' (With the single lyric "Rejoice") before 'Walk On', 'Miss Sarajevo' and 'Ultraviolet'. There was never a dull moment during the night, and the highlights were everyone getting on their feet to 'Where The Streets Have No Name', and people carrying candles around the 360 stage in memory of the over 2,000 political prisoners that remain imprisoned in Burma during 'Walk On'.
It was by far a night to remember, and definitely answered the question, "Why it took them so long to come back to Perth after the Popmart Tour?", for they gave us one of their best ever performances in their 30 year history.
