U2 ended their stay in Denver with a truly remarkable performance. While the crowd was certainly responsive on the first show Weds night, for the 2nd show the band was really feeling the love.
Unlike the 1st show, they opened with City of Blinding Light, which pulled in the crowd immediately. On into 'Beautiful Day' and 'Elevation,' which brought back memories of the last tour. The inclusion of Gloria was terrific, because the song still songs fresh right next to tunes that are less than 2 years old.
A key highlight was the guy standing near the front row with a homemade sign that said, "Bono, please touch my wife," with an arrow. Bono picked it up, laughed, showed the crowd, and pulled the young lady up to dance. What a moment!
Toward the end of the show, Bono announced, that "we're gonna play a song that we've only performed live once before; if it doesn't work, blame the Edge," and on they launched into a great performance of Original of the Species. This one should become a staple on this tour. It replaced Zoo Station the previous evening.
Finally, Bono gave Colorado great props when he remarked something like "there's about 3 places in America where even if they don't play us on the radio, where even if things look down, the fans come out and support us every time. Colorado is one of those places." He mentioned at the end of the show that they may be seeing us again "sooner than you think," so keep your fingers crossed for another show this fall, perhaps?
